Warner Norcross + Judd LLP partners Charles N. Ash and Amanda Fielder have been selected as two of Crain’s Notable West Michigan Lawyers.
This is the inaugural Notable West Michigan Lawyers feature, recognizing leading West Michigan attorneys for their success and accomplishments. Recipients were recognized in a special section of the March 20 print edition of the Grand Rapids Business Journal and online at grbj.com.
A trial lawyer with extensive experience representing individuals and businesses in complex litigation, Ash has represented global manufacturers, the state of Michigan and other clients in handling cases with over $100 million at stake. Since 2016 he has represented former Governor Rick Snyder in connection with the Flint Water Crisis. He successfully represented two banks in the City of Detroit’s historic bankruptcy case, which involved some of the central issues in the City’s restructuring. He has been recognized for his work in commercial litigation by Best Lawyers in America© every year since 2017. He has also been named to Michigan Super Lawyers since 2011 and was named a “Rising Star” by the publication in 2009 and 2010.
Ash’s nomination included a client testimony, which read: “Charles has handled several litigation cases for my business. He managed each with fantastic strategy, foresight and efficiency. His management of complex administrative rules and statutes as they interplayed with court rules brought excellent results. As an attorney myself, I recognize Charles as a gifted litigator. I highly recommend him.”
Ash is a trustee for the Michigan Colleges Alliance and served on the board directors for the Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation for seven years, three of which were as president. He has also served as a board member for the Calvin University Alumni Association and was a member of the Leadership Grand Rapids class of 2014.
He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of California. Ash holds a bachelor’s degree from Calvin University in philosophy and a law degree from Stanford Law School.
Fielder concentrates her practice in litigation, with an emphasis on employment and business dispute. Fielder has worked extensively with clients in manufacturing, financial and professional services, automotive supply and academia. She has vast experience at every stage of the litigation process in federal and state courts throughout the country and is the chair of Warner’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
Fielder’s nomination included a client testimony, which read: “Amanda is a trusted advisor and an outstanding litigator. I know when I call her she will provide candid and sound legal advice, even if she knows it is the advice I do not want to hear. She is everything in-house counsel wants out of outside counsel.”
Extensively recognized for her work in law and the community, Fielder has been named to Best Lawyers in America© and Michigan Super Lawyers since 2022, Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2020 “Women in Law” and its 2015 “Up and Coming Lawyers.” She was named to Grand Rapids Business Journal’s 2018 40 Under 40 list and its 50 Most Influential Women list in 2020.
Fielder serves on the board of the Children’s Advocacy Center. She is also a member of the 2017 class of Leadership Grand Rapids and the 2015 class of Leadership West Michigan.
She is a member of the American Bar Association, where she was named a Fellow, State Bar of Michigan, Federal Bar Association and Grand Rapids Bar Association.
Fielder holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University summa cum laude and a law degree magna cum laude from the Michigan State University College of Law.
