Steven C. Kohl, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, has been elected as a fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers, or ACOEL.

Membership in the ACOEL is by invitation only.  ACOEL members are dedicated to maintaining and improving the ethical practice of environmental law, the administration of justice and the development of environmental law at both the state and federal level.

Kohl was the only Michigan attorney among only 22 members elected this year. Approximately 200 attorneys nationwide are members of the ACOEL, only five of whom are Michigan attorneys.

Kohl chairs the firm's Resources, Energy and Environment Group. He concentrates his practice on air and air quality issues along with permitting, compliance and defense of the federal Clean Air Act and state air pollution control laws. He has broad national experience in environmental law and litigation in multiple industries, including food processing, chemical manufacturing, automotive, utility and cement matters.

Kohl is a member of the governing council of the State Bar of Michigan Environmental Section and has held multiple leadership positions on its committees. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and its Environment, Energy and Resources section.  Additionally, he is a member of the Michigan Manufacturers Association, Michigan Forest and Paper Association and Air &amp; Waste Management Association.  He serves on the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Air Advisory Council.

Kohl was named by DBusiness as a 2015 Top Lawyer in environmental law. He has been named to Best Lawyers in America since 2010, Michigan Super Lawyers since 2006 and Leading Lawyers Michigan since 2014.
