The Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the East and West Michigan chapters of the Air & Waste Management Association will host the annual Fall Joint Conference on Nov. 7 at Lansing Community College. This event is an opportunity for all environmental industry professionals to discuss environmental scientific, technical, legal and related policy issues including insights into emerging issues.

Three Warner Norcross + Judd partners, Troy Cumings, Kurt Kissling and Johnny Pinjuv, are among the event’s presenters.

Kissling will moderate the morning “EGLE Directors Panel” guiding the conversation with leaders representing the air quality, materials management, water resources and remediation and redevelopment divisions of Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

Cumings and Pinjuv will participate on the afternoon panel “Carbon Capture and Underground Sequestration.” The discussion will provide an overview of carbon sequestration, how it works and why many experts believe the process shows tremendous promise for reducing the human carbon footprint. The panel will examine associated legal issues.

At Warner, Kissling is an environmental attorney with decades of experience in all matters related to the Clean Air Act as well as its state and local counterparts, including permitting, compliance, enforcement and advocacy. He serves on the board of the Air & Waste Management Association, East Michigan chapter.

Cumings specializes in achieving solutions to complex and contentious government affairs issues. He has served as a primary advocate for some of the most polarizing and high-profile issues in Michigan over the past 10 years. Cumings is regarded as one of the lead proponents in the state on environmental policy.

Pinjuv focuses his practice on transactional real estate matters, including acquisitions, divestitures and lease negotiations. Pinjuv co-authored the June 2024 article “Carbon Sequestration: What is it and How Will it Affect Me?” Read it here.
