U.S. businesses with operations in the EU, that market goods or services in the EU or that monitor behavior of individuals within the EU, will be impacted by this new regulation and should prepare accordingly. The GDPR replaces the 1995 Data Protection Directive, and violators could face penalties of up to the greater of €20 million or 4% of the company’s global annual revenues.
