Warner Norcross & Judd LLP will host a Data Solutions Symposium on Friday, March 11 in Grand Rapids.
The half-day program will feature updates and best practices on records information management, data security and privacy and eDiscovery issues. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Kroc Community Center, 2500 S. Division Ave. SW, and the program wraps up after a networking lunch shortly after noon.
“There’s a lot at stake when it comes to data,” said Jay Yelton, a partner at Warner Norcross and co-chair of the Data Solutions Practice Group. “According to the Ponemon Institute, the average cost of a data breach in the United States is $230 per record and $6.53 million per breach.
“Every day, organizations collect information that is protected by increasingly stringent privacy regulations. It is essential in today’s world to know those laws – and to know how to ensure confidentiality.”
The first session at 9 a.m. will be a panel discussion titled: “Who’s Responsible: A Data Breach Case Study.” IT professionals and Warner attorneys will conduct a tabletop exercise that mirrors a real-world scenario. The panel will explore the legal and practical issues involved in the selection and use of a cloud vendor, including initial vetting, ongoing monitoring, and an eventual data breach.
