Susan M. Cook and Rozanne M. Giunta, partners with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, have been recognized in Lawdragon’s inaugural list of 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers.
Cook and Giunta are featured in the U.S guide, which recognizes lawyers with “remarkable skills in financing, structuring, litigating and creating a pathway forward” during “merciless times, in which every glimmer of hope seems to be a series of oncoming trains.”
Cook has more than 40 years of experience in the areas of bankruptcy, business reorganization, commercial litigation and business transactions. She has represented both purchasers and sellers in the sale of businesses, banks in the drafting and reviewing of loan documentation, and distressed businesses and creditors in both out-of-court and bankruptcy reorganizations.
Cook’s reorganization experience is in a wide range of industries, including automotive, hospitality, healthcare, construction, gaming and retail. She has significant experience representing Tier I and Tier II automotive suppliers and has been involved in all of the major automotive bankruptcy proceedings in the past 15 years. She also regularly represents physicians in the negotiation of employment contracts with private practices, hospital and managed care organizations.
Cook serves on the board of the Bay Area Women’s Center and the stewardship committee of the Bay Area Community Foundation. She is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bankruptcy Association and was inducted as a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy in 2015.
Giunta regularly represents secured creditors, debtors, creditors' committees and trustees in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 proceedings, loan workouts, defense of preference claims, collection suits, foreclosure actions and related matters. Prior to formal filings, she will work with businesses to structure transactions designed to anticipate bankruptcy problems.
Giunta counsels corporations of all sizes in various industries including automotive suppliers, automobile dealerships, farms and related businesses, hospitals and manufacturers. In addition, she represents numerous banks and secured lenders in negotiating and documenting secured transactions and in bankruptcy proceedings.
Giunta was the chair of the Debtor and Creditors’ Rights Committee of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Rules Committee for the Eastern District of Michigan. She is a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. She also serves on the mediation panel for the Eastern District of Michigan and has successfully mediated numerous matters relating to bankruptcy and commercial law issues.
Giunta supports the community through service on a number of boards and committees, including Hidden Harvest Board, the Finance Council and the Long Term Financial Planning Committee for the Saginaw Diocese, as well as the Foundation Board and the Pro Bono Board for the American College of Bankruptcy.
Both Cook and Giunta have been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers of Michigan. In addition, Giunta was named the Troy 2018 Bankruptcy Litigation Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers.
