Melissa N. Collar and Richard A. Roane, partners with the law Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, have been elected to leadership roles in the Michigan State Bar.
Collar will chair the Real Property Law Section, which provides education and information on real property law issues through seminars, publications and networking events, as well as advocacy in the Michigan Legislature. Her term will start in July. Roane is chair of the LGBTQA Law Section, which is a new section for the Michigan Bar. The LGBTQA will focus on reviewing law, cases, regulations and other legal matters that affect lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender, questioning and allies. Both attorneys will serve a one-year term leading their sections for the State Bar.
They join two other Warner partners who are also section chairs:
Collar concentrates her practice in the acquisition, development, construction, leasing and sale of real property. She regularly prepares architect, construction, design/build and integrated project delivery contracts, condominium documents, tax incentive and abatement applications and leases.
Active professionally, Collar is a member of the American Bar Association and Grand Rapids Bar Association, as well as the American Institute of Architects, Commercial Alliance of Realtors, Commercial Real Estate Women, Grand Rapids Association of Realtors and the Home and Building Association of Greater Grand Rapids.
Collar has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers and was named Grand Rapids Real Estate Lawyer of the Year in 2015 by Best Lawyers. She was elected as a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
Roane practices family law and domestic relations litigation with a concentration on divorce, LGBT family issues, arbitration and collaborative law, child custody and support and pre- and post-nuptial agreements.
Active professionally and in the community, Roane serves in numerous leadership positions with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and on the advisory board of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education Family Law. He is a member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and Collaborative Divorce Professionals of Michigan. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers and was named Grand Rapids Family Law Lawyer of 2012 by Best Lawyers.
Roane also serves on the boards of the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.
