Warner Offers Legal Briefing on Cloud Agreements

The law firm of Warner Norcross + Judd LLP will offer a legal briefing on cloud agreements on Wednesday, May 4 in Saginaw.

“Cloud Agreements: Dos, Don’ts and Gotchas” will focus on the fine print associated with negotiating cloud agreements, including service levels, security obligations, disaster recovery and data backups, warranties, indemnification and related issues.

Registration for the briefing, which is free and open to the business community, begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton at 4960 Towne Centre Road.  The session, which will be led by Warner partners Janet Knaus and Nate Steed, will run from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and allow time for questions and answers.

“Most of us click the box that says we agree to service terms when updating everything from our cell phones to software without ever reading the details – but we should,” said Knaus, a commercial attorney who concentrates on information technology transactions.  “These agreements are written by service providers to shift the liability to consumers while protecting themselves and enabling changes to pricing and service levels.

“But that doesn’t mean you can’t negotiate terms to better project your business.  You usually can – and this legal briefing will give you ways to do so.”

Knaus represents clients in a wide rang of industries, including financial services, health care, insurance, consumer products, publishing, manufacturing, education and others.  She works with clients on a host of transactions, from licensing and outsourcing to acquisition of enterprise resource planning, or ERP, software to audits.

Steed concentrates his practice in technology and intellectual property law, health law and privacy and information security law. He regularly advises clients in connection with their acquisition of software, hardware and other technology as well as complying with state and federal privacy and information security laws.

The legal briefing is hosted by the Midland office of Warner, which serves clients throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region.  Attorneys from the firm’s Midland office, including Adam Bruski, Greg Demers, Dave Klippert, Mike Wooley and others, will be on hand for the event.
