Mark K. Harder and John H. Martin, attorneys with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, are co-authors of the 2015 edition of Estates and Protected Individuals Code with Reporters’ Commentary for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
The new volume, which was released recently, is the sixth edition of this publication and provides commentary on the meaning of Michigan’s laws dealing with probate, trusts, guardianships and conservatorships. Michigan’s attorneys and courts frequently refer to this publication to interpret and apply these laws.
Harder is a partner and practices in the firm’s Holland office. Throughout 2005 to 2009, he led the effort to draft the Michigan Trust Code, which governs how trusts are established and administered in the state. The MTC provides a single-source, comprehensive and modern body of law to govern trusts. Harder is chair of the firm’s Family Office practice group.
Martin is of counsel with the firm. He most recently served on the faculty for the Ohio Northern University College of Law. He led the drafting of the Estates and Protected Individuals Code, which in 2000 updated Michigan’s laws applying to probate, guardianships, and conservatorships.
Both Harder and Martin have received numerous accolades for their legal work, including election to the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and being named to Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers.
