Warner Norcross & Judd LLP partner Susan M. Cook has been honored by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of its 2017 “Women in the Law.”
The award will be presented at a special ceremony at the Detroit Marriott Troy on Sept. 7, honoring 30 leading Michigan women attorneys for their contributions. Nominations included recognition of achievement in four areas:
Cook’s nomination letter read, in part: “Sue has a proven record of the highest level of client service and she is a role model and mentor for other women attorneys within the firm and throughout Michigan. Sue has always mentored associates during her career by teaching them not only the intricacies of bankruptcy law, but also instilling in them the qualities of creativity, advocacy and integrity that she demonstrates. While the sophistication of her practice speaks for itself, it cannot capture her willingness to teach and share her knowledge and experience.”
Based in the firm’s Midland office, Cook concentrates her practice on bankruptcy law. With almost 35 years of practice in the bankruptcy field, Sue is a recognized leader in the legal arena. She has a depth of experience in the areas of corporate bankruptcy, business, reorganization, commercial litigation and business transactions. Her reorganization experience encompasses a wide range of industries including hospitality, healthcare, automotive, construction, gaming and retail.
Active professionally and personally, Cook is a member of the Bay County Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan and Federal Bar Association. She is also a member of the Commercial Law League of America and the American Bankruptcy Institute, where she has held several leadership roles. She has been named to Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers of Michigan, earning a spot on the list of the Top 50 Women Michigan Super Lawyers in 2010.
In 2015, Cook was inducted as a fellow into the American College of Bankruptcy. She was the 2016 recipient of the annual Barbara Rom award for “Excellence in Bankruptcy” given by the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan. She also serves as a director of the Bay County Women’s Center Board and McLaren Bay Foundation Board, where she also serves on the Stewardship Committee.
