The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has released posters for the Paid Medical Leave Act (PMLA) and Workforce Opportunity Wage Act. LARA also issued some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the PMLA.&nbsp;

The Workforce Opportunity Wage Act raises the minimum wage to $9.45 effective March 29, 2019. The minimum wage rate will increase every January 1 thereafter until it reaches $12.05 in 2030. The required poster summarizes the general requirements of the Act. Employers are required to display workplace posters in a conspicuous and accessible place.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/Minimum_Wage_Poster_644740_7.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Follow this link to access the poster.</a> &nbsp; Effective March 29, 2019, the PMLA requires Michigan employers with a minimum of 50 employees to provide paid medical leave to their eligible employees. The Act excludes from coverage certain salaried exempt, temporary, seasonal, part-time (working fewer than 25 hours per week the preceding year) and private-sector union employees.&nbsp; &nbsp; Under the PMLA, employers must permit eligible employees to accrue one hour of paid medical leave per 35 hours worked. However, employers may also comply with the law by frontloading 40 hours of paid medical leave or paid time off each year. In addition, the PMLA limits the amount of paid medical leave that can be used in a year to 40 hours (unless the employer chooses to allow more).&nbsp; &nbsp; This poster summarizes the PMLA’s eligibility criteria, accrual rate, permitted uses, rates of pay and other general requirements.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/Paid_Medical_Leave_Act_Poster_644565_7.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Follow this link to access the poster.</a> &nbsp; LARA also released FAQs about the PMLA.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/Paid_Medical_Leave_Act_FAQ_003_644567_7.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Follow the link to access the FAQs.</a> &nbsp; We anticipate that further guidance and interpretations will be coming from LARA as we get closer to the PMLA’s effective date.
