Roquia K. Draper, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, has been elected president of the state board of Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.
Founded in 1919, WLAM works to advance the interest of women in the legal profession and promote equality and justice for all people. The organization has grown to cover eight regional chapters providing wide-ranging educational, networking and professional development opportunities for lawyers, judges and law students. WLAM has been actively working on the development of legislation and policy to improve the administration of justice and social justice.
Based in Warner's Southfield office, Draper has been active with WLAM for more than 10 years and previously served as secretary, treasurer and vice president. She plans to focus her one-year term as president on expanding the organization's diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and improving relations in the community.
Draper concentrates her practice in family law litigation, with an emphasis in divorce proceedings, child custody cases, complex asset and business division and dispute resolution. Her practice focuses on providing creative solutions to challenging situations.
Draper has consistently been named to Michigan Super Lawyers, including as a Rising Star since 2015, and has been listed as a Top Lawyer by DBusiness. In 2019, the American Institute of Trial Lawyers recognized Draper in Litigation of the Year in family law as well as a Top 40 Family Law Attorney under 40.
Draper is a member of the Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association, Grand Rapids Bar Association and Wayne County Family Law Bar Association. She is a graduate of Leadership Detroit Class XXIX.
