Warner LLP recently welcomed James L. Liggins, Jr. as senior counsel in its Kalamazoo office.

Liggins is a litigator who concentrates his practice on contract disputes, construction, real estate and other business matters. He also advises municipalities on civil and criminal statutes, ordinances and codes, housing code enforcement as well as property disputes.   Prior to joining Warner, Liggins was a principal with Miller Canfield in Kalamazoo.   Liggins is licensed to practice in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Illinois and Indiana state bar associations and the State Bar of Michigan, where he serves on the Judicial Qualifications Committee. He is also a past board member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and co-founder and past president of the Judge Charles A. Pratt Bar Association. He has been named to Michigan Super Lawyer’s Rising Stars list.   In addition to being active professionally, Liggins is also heavily involved in the community, serving on numerous non-profit boards, including the Bronson Health Care Group and the Harold and Grace Upjohn Foundation. He is a past board member of the Douglas Community Association and current board member on the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region as well as serving as co-chair of the 2018 United Way Campaign Committee. Close to his heart is his work for the Michigan Center for Civic Education as the coordinator of the High School Mock-Trial Program.   Liggins holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a doctor of jurisprudence from the Michigan State University College of Law.   He is a native of Kalamazoo where he currently resides with his wife, Jyllian, and children Justin, Jasmine and Juliana.
