James G. Cavanagh, senior counsel with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, has been appointed to the Lansing Board of Ethics by Lansing Mayor Andy Schor.
Cavanagh will serve a three-year term on the eight-person board, which is tasked with reviewing and addressing questions of standards of conduct for public officers and employees. The board deals with ethics complaints, statements of financial interests and affidavits of disclosure, among other issues.
“Jim Cavanagh is an incredible attorney, a longtime Lansing resident and a perfect choice for this position,” Schor said. “He is beyond reproach in terms of his moral compass, and I have tremendous confidence he will ensure those who work for and represent the city of Lansing will follow our ordinances and act ethically as governmental employees and representatives of the people.”
Cavanagh concentrates his practice in government affairs, advocacy, compliance, regulatory matters and lobbying for a broad range of industries, including health care and associations. He regularly appears before the legislative and executive branches of state government to advise on government relations, administrative law, campaign finance and related matters.
Cavanagh has served as legal counsel to speakers of the Michigan House of Representatives and as a liaison between the governor, attorney general and Michigan Supreme Court. A former county commissioner, he comes from a long line of Michigan public servants, including judges, justices and a mayor of Detroit.
Cavanagh is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan and Ingham County Bar Association. He has been named to Best Lawyers in America® for government relations and health care law. He’s also been selected one of Michigan’s top lobbyists by MIRS and Inside Michigan Politics.
