The law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP welcomed Brian D. Wassom as partner in the firm’s Southfield and Macomb offices.
An experienced litigator, Wassom focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. In addition to copyright, trademark and product liability, he has developed an expertise in disputes including social and emerging media, publicity rights, defamation, unfair competition, First Amendment matters, and false and deceptive advertising. He also serves as a court-appointed civil mediator.

Prior to joining Warner Norcross, Wassom practiced at Honigman where he led the firm’s social, mobile and emerging media industry group. Through his concentration on new technologies, Wassom has developed a deep understanding of cyber security, digital marketing, and invasion of privacy issues.
Wassom received his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and his law degree magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he was Order of the Coif. Wassom served as a law clerk for the Hon. Judge Alice M. Batchelder, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
He has been consistently named a Top Lawyer by dBusiness and Michigan Super Lawyers including recognition as a Rising Star on three occasions. One of his copyright infringement cases was recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business in one of its “Top Verdicts and Settlements” lists.
Active professionally, Wassom is a member of the Federal Bar Association, where he co-chairs the Intellectual Property Committee, and the State Bar of Michigan, where he is a member of the Business Law Section’s Committee on Business Courts. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association and the Macomb County Bar Association. He co-founded Christian Legal Aid of Southeastern Michigan, an advice clinic serving inner-city Detroit and Pontiac.
Wassom writes extensively on emerging media law, having published more than 35 articles, essays and other contributions to publications such as Forbes, Mashable, The Journal of Arts Management Law & Society, and others. He blogs regularly at Wassom.com, and Syngress recently published his first book, Augmented Reality Law, Privacy and Ethics.
A native of Sterling Heights, Wassom now resides in Shelby Township with his wife, Sheri, and their children, Eva and Dayton.
