What kind of law do you practice and what do you enjoy about it?
I’m a private client attorney, which is primarily tax, trusts and estate planning. I enjoy helping my clients accumulate and preserve wealth and plan legacies that will enhance the lives of the people that are important to them and promote the things they are passionate about.
Tell us about your background and why you decided to become an attorney.
My father is an old-school family physician (he still makes house calls to patients to this day), and I always wanted to have the deeply personal, positive impact on people and their families that my dad had (and still has) on his patients. My work experience at a probate court and with the trusts and estates group of a law firm during and after college inspired me to go to law school — and ultimately, becoming a private client attorney has given me the opportunity to impact people through professional service the way I always hoped I’d be able to.
Why did you want to work for Warner?
Warner’s Trusts and Estates Practice Group is widely recognized as the number one trusts and estates group in the state of Michigan and among the best in the country, earning a Band 1 rating for private wealth law in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide every year since the guide’s inception seven years ago. Warner attorneys are truly the superstars in our field, and they set the gold standard for excellence that everyone else aspires to. I felt thrilled and very fortunate to have an opportunity to join such an extraordinary team and learn from some of the very best.
What do you think people would be surprised to learn about you?
I surfed the Pacific Ocean in the mornings before class during my first semester of law school in Los Angeles. Because California is on Pacific Time, waking up before sunrise (a little after 6:00 a.m.) feels like sleeping in until 9:00 a.m. for someone who is used to Eastern Time. So, I had to come up with a way to burn the morning hours, and I settled on surfing — which I was, and still am, very bad at.
