I love solving complex problems. Whether I was landing in Baghdad to uncover critical facts concerning matters of national security or interviewing countless witnesses to develop evidence for trial, I’ve always enjoyed putting the pieces of a case together. For me, speaking in front of an audience is effortless and I revel in being my clients’ strongest advocate – whether to prevent litigation or give them their day in court – because telling their stories is paramount to my practice.

Mike Bovill is a litigator whose practice concentrates on commercial, construction, employment, governmental and white collar criminal defense matters. Within his commercial practice, Mike represents businesses entangled in contract, real estate and construction, tortious interference, shareholder oppression and other thorny business conflicts. His employment practice centers on investigative and defense work. In the governmental sector, Mike counsels clients through campaign and election matters. And his white collar criminal defense practice is built upon years of experience as a general counsel, prosecutor and Special Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mike’s prior work as general counsel and special victims qualified prosecutor for the U.S. Marine Corps has undoubtedly shaped his practice. Handling 50-100 criminal and felony cases monthly spanning oceans and continents, serving as general counsel to both U.S. military task forces and history’s largest international coalitions in Iraq, Syria and Kuwait, and investigating matters of national security across the globe have proven no controversy is too challenging. Groomed for the toughest conditions, Mike brings military training to his civilian practice and the grit, unwavering commitment and accountability distinguishable of a Marine.

He views his clients’ issues as his own and conducts thorough due diligence to leave no stones unturned and no questions unanswered. He excels at assembling complex parts and pieces of a case to tell a compelling story that will move judges and juries. He’s an active listener and quickly prioritizes the most important elements to achieve the desired outcomes. And above all, he exudes empathy for the stress litigation has on businesses and the parties involved.

Understanding the human dynamics at play, Mike strives to communicate subtleties that can make or break a case. He’s a natural at delivering opening and closing remarks and interviewing witnesses and experts to further the cause. Plainly stated: He’s the voice for people who don’t have their own.

Prior to Warner, Mike was a senior associate with Smith Haughey Rice &amp; Roegge where he steered litigation strategy, identified and deposed witnesses, drafted and argued dispositive motions, and represented clients in civil and criminal court cases. He served as lead counsel for contractors and plaintiffs in several construction law cases in Michigan, drafted, argued and won multiple dispositive motions in both federal and state court, and defended clients in numerous criminal defense cases. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Loyola University Chicago and his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
