As litigation attorney with a focus on appellate practice, being 10 steps ahead of my opponent is of the utmost importance. I excel at anticipating my clients’ needs and work hard to deliver exceptional results. Knowing each case inside and out, backwards and forwards is my job and something I take very seriously. I’ve been training my whole life for this role. As a former conference interpreter for French, Spanish and Italian, I dedicated endless hours to research and was able to use contextual clues to quickly anticipate what each speaker was going to say. Likewise, as a litigator and appellate attorney, I prepare, predict and pivot to present the most compelling and persuasive arguments that position my clients for the best outcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Katherine Boothroyd is a litigation attorney who focuses her practice on appellate matters. Having previously served as a judicial clerk for the Hon. David F. Viviano of the Michigan Supreme Court and as a judicial intern for the Hon. Thomas L. Ludington of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Katherine has significant experience with appeals and was exposed to a deluge of high-level cases. This experience shaped her writing and presentation skills, as well as her understanding of how judges, clerks and courts make decisions and the importance of delivering a polished work product.

Katherine’s interpreting experience in addition to her clerkships has provided the framework for a successful litigation and appellate practice. Her role as a French, Spanish and Italian interpreter in Europe for international conferences mirrors appellate litigation. A challenging cognitive task, interpreters must have perfect comprehension and anticipate what the speakers are going to say – and conduct hours of research and have a thorough understanding of global cultures. Similarly, appellate litigation demands impeccable language skills, hours of preparation and an uncanny memory for case law, facts and details – all skills she has mastered and fine-tuned in her practice.

Passionate about the law and championing her clients’ interests, Katherine ensures the highest quality whether writing persuasive briefs or presenting compelling oral arguments. Determination and perseverance along with outside the box thinking fuel Katherine’s advocacy. Katherine received her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was the articles editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law. She holds a bachelor’s degree in European languages (French, Spanish and Italian) and a master’s degree in translating and interpreting (French and Spanish), both from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom. Katherine also holds a master’s degree in interpretation from the Institut de Traducteurs, d’Interprètes et de Relations Internationales in Strasbourg, France.
