A sure sign of summer is coming, and this year it's going to be better than ever.
The 10th annual Waterfront Film Festival is scheduled for June 12-15 in Saugatuck. Once again, Warner Norcross & Judd is one of the sponsors of this summer mainstay along the lakeshore which draws film enthusiasts from across the Midwest.
The four-day festival screens more than 30 feature-length films and 25 shorts in five venues throughout town. In addition to a strong lineup of films, this year's festival will take on added significance with Michigan's new legislation that offers steep incentives to filmmakers who produce their films in the state.
"Our 10th anniversary as a festival coincides with an especially exciting time for filmmakers in Michigan. The passage of the new film incentives has made Michigan the talk of Hollywood, giving our state and WFF even greater exposure at the national level," said Hopwood DePree, a Holland filmmaker and co-founder of the festival. "We look forward to welcoming a number of leading directors and actors to our June festival."
DePree said the quality of films, combined with the new incentives and the buzz they are creating, should ensure the best event in the festival’s history.
"Without a doubt, this will be our best festival ever," he said. “We screened a record number of films this year to arrive at our current lineup, which will have something to offer all moviegoers."
This year's films feature a number of stars, including Lisa Kudrow, Stephen Baldwin, Chazz Palminteri and Christine Lahti, and cover topics ranging from Las Vegas con artists and tightrope walkers to the international Double Dutch world jump-roping championship in Harlem and a recently divorced man searching for the one thing that still means something to him—his cat.
