6/25/2010
For the second year in a row, attorneys from the Appellate Practice Group at Warner Norcross & Judd LLP were recognized with the Distinguished Brief Award from the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review.
Practice group chair John J. Bursch, Matthew T. Nelson and Julie Lam received the 2010 award for their authorship of an amicus curiae brief in Edry v. Edelman, which they submitted on behalf of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association. Bursch and Nelson are partners in the firm, and Lam is an associate. All three practice in the Grand Rapids office of Warner Norcross and regularly contribute to the firm's One Court of Justice Blog, www.ocjblog.com.
Now celebrating its 25th year, the award is given in recognition of the most scholarly briefs filed before the Michigan Supreme Court as determined by a panel of jurists. The briefs are evaluated on the basis of:
Question presented
Point headings
Statement of the case
Argument and analysis
Style
Mechanics
Best overall brief
Bursch was one of two co-authors from Warner Norcross who was recognized in the 2009 competition for his work in an amicus curiae brief on behalf of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel. Warner Norcross attorneys are the first to win the competition for two consecutive years.
