Three Warner Partners Recognized as ‘Notable Women in Law’ by Crain’s Detroit Business

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP partners Monique Field-Foster, Danelle E. Harrington and Laura N. You have been named to Crain’s Detroit Business 2024 “Notable Women in Law” list.

Selected by a team of Crain’s business editors, Notable Women in Law recognizes women who set legal precedents, relentlessly pursue justice, win big cases, complete large deals or handle notable pro bono work and serve in leadership roles for professional and community service organizations, all while mentoring other attorneys.

Field-Foster is the executive partner of Warner’s Lansing office. She focuses her practice on government advocacy and affairs, advising clients in various industries on navigating all levels of government, including advocacy, policy and regulatory impacts, political and campaign strategy and legislative analysis and drafting. Field-Foster has worked for two governors, the state of Michigan, Michigan Legislature and Michigan State University.

Her nomination read in part: “Monique serves as co-chair of Warner’s growing Government Advocacy and Affairs Practice Group where attorney-lobbyists and consultants guide businesses and nonprofits through the complexities related to legislation, policy development and state agencies. She is committed to improving the legal community by ensuring diversity among individuals who work as lobbyists and attorneys. She identifies opportunities to elevate women of color within politics and higher education and is a fervent believer that it’s a responsibility of successful women to mentor other rising women leaders.”

Field-Foster was honored by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of the “Influential Women of Law” and by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of “50 Names to Know in Lobbying,” both in 2022. She serves on the boards of the Sparrow Foundation, Peckham, Inc. and the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics, and is a member of the National Black Professional Lobbyists Association and the U.S. Minority Contractor Association.

Harrington focuses her practice on trusts and estates, assisting individuals, families and businesses plan for today and generations to come. Within her practice, Harrington helps clients develop and fine tune their estate plans, manage probate and trust administration after the death of a loved one, and navigate succession plans for family businesses. Her practice involves planning for farm families as well as other agricultural-based businesses. 

Her nomination read in part: “Harrington grew up on a family farm near Saginaw and now works within that community to advocate for her fellow farmers. She understands the mindset of her clients and their attachment to farmland, including the assets they’ve worked so hard to grow and protect. She provides sound advice in a down-to-earth and comprehensive manner, advocating for clients to achieve the best results. And she does it with a level of authenticity, compassion and intuitive understanding that very few attorneys possess.”

Harrington serves on the Hidden Harvest and Star of the West Milling Company’s board of directors and is a member of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council and the Stevens Center for Family Business Executive Council.

You is a member of the firm’s Automotive Industry Group. She concentrates her practice on complex commercial disputes in the automotive, aerospace and industrial manufacturing industries. A former mortgage banker, You is also a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Industry Group. A Fellow of the Federal Bar Foundation, You serves on the boards of Inforum, Matrix Human Services, Detroit Bar Association and Young Professionals Group of the Sky Foundation Inc. She is a graduate of Leadership Detroit, Leadership Oakland and Inforum’s Executive Leadership program.

You’s nomination read in part: “Automotive suppliers rely on Laura’s advocacy in disputes, and equally depend on her thoughtful counsel to determine the right course of action for each unique obstacle. Although litigation is always an option, Laura likes to place control in the clients’ hands. She does this by analyzing situations and utilizing her niche automotive experience to anticipate any challenge. That’s what she loves most, building strong relationships with clients and advocating vigorously, in and out of court, to advance their interests with minimal risk and exposure to their business.”

You was featured in the Crain’s Detroit Business 2022 “40 under 40” list and was named by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of its “Women in the Law” honorees in 2021 and one of its “Top Women Lawyers” in 2018. She was recognized as a Rising Star by Michigan Super Lawyers from 2016 - 2022.
