ICLE Seminar: Pre- and Postnuptial Agreements

Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023
9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m. ET

Virtual Event
Livestreamed and On-Demand

The Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Family Law Section of the Michigan Bar Association are cohosting a seminar titled "Pre- and Postnuptial Agreements” to be livestreamed on Thursday, Oct. 19.

With as many as 50 percent of marriages ending in divorce, it’s important to effectively prepare and safeguard clients. This half-day event gathers leading practitioners to discuss proactively drafting sound, enforceable agreements and how to modify those agreements when necessary. Speakers will also offer thoughts on how to skillfully litigate marital agreement disputes should they arise.

Warner Partner Beth O'Laughlin will lead a session titled “Prenuptial Agreements from an Estate Planning Perspective” offering her thoughts on a range of issues, including:

  • What to do about the house and practical aspects of a life estate.
  • Does the will or trust change the prenuptial agreement?
  • Retirement plan beneficiary issues.
  • Life insurance and bank account issues.
  • Alternatives to prenups.

O’Laughlin is a partner in Warner’s Midland office who concentrates her practice in the areas of trust and estate planning, small and family business succession planning and general business law. She counsels families, individuals, business owners, physicians and others across a range of estate and tax planning matters.

The event will be livestreamed on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. It will also be available for on-demand viewing. For more information on the event, CLE credits and to reserve your spot, please click here.
