Friday, March 1, 2024
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. ET

In-person Event
City Life Church
574 Division Ave. S
Grand Rapids, MI 49503

City Life Church will host a Financial Foundation workshop to dive deep into various financial situations people might find themselves in if they become disabled and/or as they near end of life. The workshop will offer practical guidance from professionals and practitioners who will discuss best practices and answer questions. The event is offered in the evening on Friday, March 1 and repeated Saturday, March 2 in the morning beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Warner Partner David L. J. M. Skidmore will present “Basics of Disability Planning and Estate Planning: Who Will Make My Decisions If I Can’t, and What Will Happen to my Stuff When I Die?” Skidmore will address what you can do to proactively plan for possible future disability by naming financial and medical decision makers. He will also cover how decisions are made for disabled persons who have not engaged in any planning. He will further cover the basics of estate planning:

  • The difference between a will and a trust.
  • Types of property that pass automatically at death without going through probate.
  • What happens if you die without a will.
  • Who implements your wishes after death.
  • Common mistakes that people make in their estate planning.

Skidmore, a former chair of the State Bar of Michigan's Probate and Estate Planning Council, concentrates his practice on probate, trust, estate, fiduciary, and real property disputes and litigation.

The event, held at City Life Church in Grand Rapids, offers free parking, transportation and childcare. Spots are limited and preregistration is required.
