The grand-prize winner of the Second Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Essay Contest, which is sponsored by Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, will read his essay today during a special noon program at Grand Rapids Community College.
Jose Rodriguez, who attends Grand Rapids Montessori, will read his essay on "Living the Dream: What the Words of Dr. Martin Luther King Mean to Me" during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Celebration Program at GRCC's Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. His essay was selected from more than 150 entries from sixth-grade students within Grand Rapids Public Schools. The students were asked to select and explain one of three inspirational quotes from the late civil rights leader and detail what steps they could take to make Dr. King's dream become a reality in their community.

Amanee Jones-Spottsville, Royale Runyon, Krystal Jiminez, all of Sherwood Park Global Studies Academy, honorable mention
Rebeca Albna, Clarita Vasquez, Giovanni Marroquin, all of Southwest Community Campus, honorable mention
Winning students received either a savings bond or a gift certificate to a local bookstore. Essays were judged by Warner Norcross attorneys and staff on originality, clarity, organization and knowledge of Dr. King and his work in the civil rights movement.
